Gurney Environmental have completed the final stages of the installation of their exclussive Accel-o-Fac® wastewater treatment system for the Severn & Wye Smokery in Gloucestershire. The Accel-o-Fac wastewater treatment system was chosen by the Severn & Wye Smokery for a number of important reasons linked to a zero carbon footprint strategy.

  • System uses wind as main power source
  • Virtually no ongoing operations or maintenance requirements
  • No sludge handling, disposal costs or regulations
  • No odours or noise
  • Long-life capital equipment

The Accel-o-Fac wastewater treatment system is a well proven, time-tested and highly sustainable ‘all-in-one’ treatment system ideally suited to the needs of the Smokery. Accel-o-Fac provides users with an extremely robust, odour-free wastewater treatment system that requires little in the way of operator attention or maintenance and, best of all, no sludge handling, removal or regulation. Truly a complete and total ‘all-in-one’ on-site treatment system.

SYSTEM PROVEN FOR A DECADE AT HOLKHAM

The Severn & Wye system is similar to the Accel-o-Fac wwtp constructed at Holkham Village & Estate in Norfolk 10 years ago. Stephen Twyford from Holkham Estate’s Land & Property Department commented, "The system continues to provide a low cost and low maintenance solution to wastewater treatment for Holkham Village with additional capacity for any needed future increase. The fact that there is no associated sewage odours meant that the system could be located relatively near to the village, and, after 10 years of use, no sludge removal has been needed.”

Gurney Environmental were chosen to supply the specially designed Accel-o-Fac system at Severn & Wye to provide an effective treatment solution that would cost-effectively handle the variable design flows and loadings from the Smokery. The Accel-o-Fac system is uniquely capable of handling significant variations in both flow and loading, and can accommodate further development of the Smokery business. The Accel-o-Fac system offers owners and operators significant benefits in both OPEX and CAPEX savings as compared to treatment alternatives such as activated sludge or SBR’s operating at up to 95% less. The results are incredibly low total life costs (TOTEX) and initial capital cost recovery.

Testimonials

We've already found that the ponds work a lot better, they are a lot cleaner and functionally look a lot better than what they were previously. It seems to be working at this stage, so we're quietly confident that it's going to be a good investment.

Richard Kirby Regional Sewerage Business Unit Manager Nelson, New Zealand

...there is no doubt about it, the ResMix system works! Having started with a volatile and inconsistent chlorine residuals in our supply, we are now using the WEARS product to mix and dose our tanks. We are not alone in our experiences here. All I can say is that the results speak for themselves.

Doug Moorby Manager of Engineering Operations Norromine Shire, Australia

Adding the Accel-o-Fac® system to South Gippsland Water treatment cells where traditional surface aeration was previously used allowed the corporation to significantly reduce energy use. The savings in kWh are excellent with one application saving 72% in energy compared to the previous year.

Brett Vurlow South Gippsland Water Victoria, Australia

The fact that there is no associated sewage odours [with the Accel-o-Fac wwtp] meant that the system could be located relatively near to the village, and, after 10 years of use, no sludge removal has been needed.

Stephen Twyford Land & Property Department, Holkham Estate, Norfolk, UK

These results show that the [ResMix] mixer is providing a fully mixed water column and preventing conditions for manganese and nutrient release from the sediments.

Stuart Holden Process Engineer, United Utilities Engineering Ridgegate Reservoir

We are very pleased to be using this innovative management system in the reservoir at Pontsticill. This investment will improve the water quality for customers in the area and ensure they continue to receive a top quality supply of drinking water long into the future.

Roy Samuel Capital Delivery Manager, Welsh Water - Dwr Cymru

The Aero-Fac system at Windsor has to date met and exceeded our consent discharge levels, and we have been very happy with the system installed.
