As per a story in the trade publication, Water Magazine, a recent upgrade project follows on to success of several Gurney Environmental projects in nearby Jamaica for the country’s National Water Commission.
Following joint study and planning by Stantec and Gurney Environmental, the company recently completed an upgrade at a WwTP in Barbados to an energy-free windpowered Accel-o-Fac® system.
In nearby Jamaica, the Jamaican National Water Commission has had several years of success with Accel-o-Fac® systems that include the windpowered SERIES 3 aerators and found that both Accel-o-Fac® and Aero-Fac® systems ideally fit in with their eco/sustainability focus of seeking out significantly greener and more truly sustainable options. The technology is now transferring to Barbados.
Meeting the Challenges of Climate Change
Employing the windpowered SERIES 3 aeration units within an effluent polishing system is uniquely suited to meet the many challenges of climate change with an extremely low carbon footprint, dramatic energy savings, no sludge production or handling, no odour, plus energy-free disinfection, thereby making effluent suitable for irrigation water re-use or safe-bathing waters whether discharged to river or sea.
Installation Improves Performance Whilst Saving Energy
The SERIES 3 upgrade will be used to significantly improve overall treatment from the WwTP whilst also controlling odours, digesting sludge and improving disinfection. With a zero energy cost, the benefits are gained with OPEX savings that can literally pay for the initial capital cost.
